Elizabeth Lassing: The Designer and the Business

About Elizabeth Lassing

I am a designer and creator of unique custom jewelry specializing in beadweaving and wirework. It is my mission to not only create stunning accessories, but to work alongside each jewelry lover to create one-of-a-kind pieces that match the style and comfort of the wearer. I create jewelry designs that can be worn for all kinds of occasions, ranging from simple pairs of every day earrings to lavish wedding sets adorned in sparkling crystals. I also offer additional services such as repairs, alterations, birthday parties, and lessons. I strive to make each custom piece full of sentiment and beauty that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.

In addition to my passion for jewelry crafting, I am a lover of playing the violin, dancing on the ice with my figure skates, and indulging in bold black coffee. I am a lifelong learner, embracing new opportunities everyday through reading, art, games, and meaningful conversations with inspiring people.

How did Elizabeth Lassing Jewelry Start?

I began making jewelry as a teenager when two friends put some Sculpey clay in my hands and said “here, make something.” I had no idea what I was doing but two hours later, I pulled my first pendant out of the oven and was in awe at what I was able to create. I realized then that I could express who I am as a person through creating wearable art, and my entire life changed in that one afternoon.

I began experimenting with more clay designs and then branched into wirework as I discovered my high school art room had pliers and beading supplies that I could use during study halls and after school. I began creating designs that friends and teachers asked to buy off me, and my business of Elizabeth Lassing Jewelry was born.

Why is creating jewelry something I’m so passionate about?

As so many of us are faced with challenges of embracing ourselves for who we are in the face of social media, I create and share my jewelry to support others in celebrating who they are, whatever their background, whatever their story. As life feels like it becomes more and more hectic by the year, it is my mission to create pieces that others can connect with and feel joy in wearing, thus bringing even just a small piece of joy to the lives of others daily through my art.

I craft my pieces to connect with you and for you to tell your story. We don’t need another piece of costume jewelry to sit forgotten in the back of our jewelry box. Our jewelry is an expression of who we are. I create my pieces inspired by nature, inspiration songs, memories, powerful messages, and the small every day beautiful moments that are so easy to overlook when we’re overburdened by stresses. My pieces are to help you celebrate the little things in life to be grateful for. My designs are to help you tell your story.

Why do I teach?

I teach jewelry making for two very essential reasons:

The first is that my life changed in one afternoon because two friends encouraged me to do something I didn’t know I could do. One of my most important goals in teaching is to give this same opportunity to others, no matter the age. One jewelry lesson can open up a boundless world of creation you never knew possible.

The second is that jewelry making is an excellent – and often overlooked – method of relaxation. I had tried meditation many years ago, thinking it would help balance my overworked life, but I found that sitting and not moving my body made me even more anxious. I then realized that jewelry making is a form of meditation: you can slow your mind and body down, focus on your beadweaving stitches and wire bending like focusing on your breathing, place your mind into a positive atmosphere, and then you have a beautiful piece that emerges from spending time taking care of yourself and being expressive. It is a goal of mine in teaching to help others bring this level of joy and relaxation to their life through jewelry creation.
